Cat Burglar – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Black Mirror animation

Cat Burglar Cat Burglar is an interactive cartoon from the creators of Black Mirror, who brought us 2018’s superb Bandersnatch.

Upon what you see, you have to click on the correct answer, which can change the course of the cartoon, where the plot sees Rowdy Cat attempt to steal a priceless item from a museum, much to the annoyance of Peanut the Security Pup.

You first have to help him get over the museum wall at night time. I was asked to select three options for “Not a musical” – e.g. Greece or Grease – to detemine whether or not he would break through, in this Tex-Avery style cartoon.

Get an answer wrong, and you lose one of your three lives. Fail completely, and you don’t get into the museum, witnessing some fun death scenes along the way, along with alternate takes on the scenes which lead to the questions.

Oddly, it’s rated 12 for crude humour, but it just seems like a regular cartoon of that era. And although cartoons are aimed at young children, they’re not going to answer all the questions. How will they know that something seen at a golf course is “wasteful irrigation”?

I’m not sure I’d want to see the same basic cartoon over and over, though, even with its variances.

There’s not as much footage as with Bandersnatch – which just seemed to go on for several hours when I tried various plot branches, whereas Cat Burglar has approximately 90 minutes of footage.

Cat Burglar is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix now.
