Desperate Measures – The DVDfever Review – Channel 5 drama – Amanda Abbington

Desperate Measures

Desperate Measures sees bank clerk Rowan (Amanda Abbingdon) taking… yes, desperate measures, when push comes to shove in her circumstances.

There’s been a robbery at her bank, and she’s being questioned. The cops think it could be an inside job, to which she takes umbrage at the potential accusation. However, cue a flashback to a slightly happier time, as she’s heading into work, a bank where only her and Varisha (Sunetra Sarker) are seemingly employed…

Well, apart from her snotty boss, Clive (Seb Cardinal).

But it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, since they’re being made redundant (BOO! HISS! CLIVE!!!!), and thanks to a situation where Rowan’s son, Finn (Jesse Cescatti-McFarlane) is hanging around with ne’er do well Conor (Harry Rose), the cops are soon onto him, Rowan’s son makes a bolt for it, but thanks to Conor’s actions, Finn now owes £25,000 to bug-eyed Mr Big, aka Kristof (Gabor Nagypal), who doesn’t take long to track him down, acting all Big Meanie, giving them 3 days to pay up.

So far, no-one’s got stuck in a cave, yet, and anything’s better than Ms Abbingdon’s ITV sitcom, The Family Pile, which was on at the same time, as well as the previous Channel 5 drama, The Catch.

There is a twist I won’t reveal, but while it is a bit daft, it could be worth sticking with, so I’ll check out another episode, even if it does feel there’s far more major baddies than there should be in such a drama.

And an update:
