Liaison – The DVDfever Review – Apple TV+ – Eva Green, Vincent Cassel

Liaison Liaison is a new Apple TV+ drama which mixes French and English dialogue, beginning in Damascus, Syria with terrorists being tracked, before globetrotting to Blighty and the National Cyber Security Centre, London, who are suddenly hijacked.

Govt bod Mark describes it to MP Peter Mullan (The Vanishing) as “Someone found a temporary backdoor into our DMZ”, pronouncing DMZ as “Dee-Em-Zee”, but no-one in the UK says ‘Z’ as ‘Zee’, making this all rather silly from the off. But is it a proper hacker, or as Mark thinks, just someone doing it for a hobby? Alison (Eva GreenProxima) doesn’t look convinced, and smoulders in the way that only Eva Green can do.

And I would detail some of the characters’ names properly, but this is yet another of those dramas where the end credits bafflingly leave out the lead actors, and the information on IMDB and Wikipedia is currently scant.

Meanwhile, there’s Syrian hackers want to escape from their country, with the authorities, having other ideas, while Vincent Cassel (Jason Bourne) is the mysterious Gabriel Delage, who may or may not be a bad guy.

Plus, as the trailer shows, the hackers have more ideas, messing about with the Thames Barrier trying to cope with with lots of rain, so cue a lot of CGI as London is about to get flooded.

In Liaison, we see Eva chirpin back at govt bod Mark, there’s a lot of running about, and the trailer shows there’s clearly some sort of past between Alison and Gabriel, but is he friend or foe? Who’s telling the truth and who’s talking out of their hat? Yes, it’s one of those thrillers again, although I wasn’t feeling too much in the way of thrills, and even delving into the second episode, I can’t say I’m massively engaged with it, since it is rather on the ridiculous side.

Eva Green is nice, though.

Note that the series is a mix of English and French language, but subtitles were present for both languages on the screener.

Liaison is on Apple TV+ from Friday February 24th, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. One episode is available at launch, then the others are added weekly.

Thanks to our friends at Apple TV+ for the review screener.
