Disobedience centres around Ronit Krushka (Rachel Weisz)… yeah, a Brit playing a Russian… it’s The Hunt For Red October all over again, but go with it….
Anyhoo, she returns to the community which shunned her for her attraction to childhood friend Esti Kuperman (Rachel McAdams), and once back, their passions reignite as they explore the boundaries of faith and sexuality.
I saw this after the silly new trailer Game Night, and again starring Ms McAdams, this takes a sharp gear change into tedious lesbian drama. However, if you like slow drama with the always-out-of-her-depth Ms Weisz, then knock yourself out.
Disobedience is released in the UK on August 24th.
Writer/Director: Sebastián Lelio (based on the novel by Naomi Alderman)
Also stars: Alessandro Nivola, Anton Lesser, Nicholas Woodeson, Cara Horgan, Bernardo Santos
