Echoes centres around Gina and her twin sister, Leni (both played by Michelle Monaghan – Mission Impossible: Fallout), although we see up front that the former discovers the latter has gone missing, leading to an obvious scene where Leni’s daughter, Mattie mistakes Gina for her Mum… easy mistake to make, as you can gather.
So, what sort of clues might there be? Gina tells Leni’s other half, Jack, about how Leni told her about breaking in a new horse last week, although he corrects her, stating the horse arrived a month ago, even though Leni just apparently posted about it on social media. So, it sounds like one of those dramas where nothing is what it seems to the lead protagonist… or in the real world, it could just be that Leni didn’t get round updating her socials on time?
But this isn’t the real world, and so the train of thought speculates that Leni went off with her horses and could be injured somewhere.
At one point, Gina says: “Something’s wrong here”, so is she just going psycho? and nothing has happened? Or is she just a bit puddled this morning and got out of bed the wrong side?
Well, after one episode, I’m just not feeling this at all, so she could be referring to the script.
In fact, there’s some elements that obviously I’m not going to spoil, but this drama is generally supposed intrigue that’s about as intriguing as a Channel 5 made-for-TV afternoon movie, or in some cases, one of their original evening dramas shown over four nights of the same week.
The only slight elements I will mention without spoilers is that Gina has a distinct dislike to Mattie’s babysitter, Natasha – which reminds me of Channel 5’s Lie With Me with Charlie Brooks and nanny. Also, at one point, Gina walks into a rainy cave, looking for answers. In Channel 5’s Intruder, two people walked into a cave and only one came out. I just hoped this one doesn’t go there.
Okay, it didn’t, but what did happen is equally stupid. Given that the main actress has been in three Mission Impossible movies: Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to sit through all 7 episodes. If you manage it, you’re a better man than me.
Similar to The Sandman, this is shot in a 2.39:1 cinematic widescreen ratio.
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
