Fifty Shades Darker – oh, the pain never ends! Literally, as this is the second in the ‘bonkbuster’ trilogy from EL James between business bloke Christian Grey (James Dornan) and his initially-uptight secretary Anastasia Steele (Dekota Johnson).
For me, Fifty Shades of Grey started off being a bit of a laugh, but then turned into something deeply dull. Go online if you want to get those kicks. However, the threadbare plot for this one is that while Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her.
Director Sam Taylor-Wood cried off doing the sequels for no apparent reason, so it falls to James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross), with a screenplay by Niall Leonard, the cast also includes Tyler Hoechlin, Kim Basinger, Bella Heathcote, Hugh Dancy, Max Martini, Luke Grimes, Fay Masterson, Rita Ora and – appropriately for this sort of movie – Eric Johnson and Marcia Gay Harden.
Fifty Shades Darker is unleashed, unbound, whatever in UK cinemas on February 10th 2017, just in time for Valentine’s Day, so save up your pennies and splash out on Mr Grey!
