Hello Kitty is a national institution in Japan and centres on a family of cats that don’t seem to moult and walk around and talk like humans. If you’re really lucky, they’ll sing for you too. It’s like Manga for kids.

The six moralistic episodes featured are:

  • A Blooming Good Morning: Kitty has trouble getting up in the morning (join the club!), but her Mum has some dubiously-named “Morning Glory” seeds which will flower early on in the day and so will cause her to get up.

  • A Storybook Adventure: Imagination is the key as Kitty and her sister go on a number of different adventures, just as a result of reading their storybook.

  • Kitty’s Clean Cuisine: Kitty loves her curry, but she must learn to wash her hands before dinnertime.

  • A Day Out with Dad: And both Kitty and her sister go out for a walk with their Dad to get some lightbulbs and check out all the other shops along the way.

  • Underground Kitty: Another fantasy episode where Kitty and her sister imagine they’re small enough to go underground and visit the mole who lives in a hole.

  • Watch the Birdie: Kitty finds an injured bird in their garden and immediately summons the vet.

The cartoons are in 4:3 fullscreen and the print is clean and clear. The stereo sound is purely functional.

As for the extras, there’s a Fun and Games section, but there’s nothing interactive here, just a series of guessing games. Songs brings you the music for Hello Kitty and Let’s Fly Away.

The menu features the theme tune, but there are no subtitles to the disc and just one chapter per story.
