If Beale Street Could Talk, based on a novel by James Baldwin, follows Tish (Kiki Layne), a newly engaged Harlem woman who races against the clock to prove her lover’s innocence while carrying their first born child. It’s a celebration of love told through the story of a young couple, their families, and their lives.
The film doesn’t look like my sort of thing, but for fans of Moonlight, it comes from the same screenwriter/director Barry Jenkins.
If Beale Street Could Talk is released in the UK on January 18th 2019, so presumably looking for Oscars and BAFTAs. Just don’t invite Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway to the ceremony again.
Also stars: Stephan James, Regina King
