Interstellar is not the name of an indie rock band from Manchester circa 1990 – as that would be Intastella, but is instead the first new film from Christopher Nolan following the completion of his Dark Knight Trilogy, and features Matthew McConaughey and features as one of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.
Like the second and third Batman films from Nolan, Interstellar will also contain footage shot in the full IMAX ratio of 1.44:1, which is such a rarity these days because you have to shoot on film, and such stocks of film are depleting, meaning that this is most likely to be the LAST EVER FILM which features IMAX footage in 1.44:1. Lots of films contain IMAX footage shot digitally, but that ratio only opens up to a maximum of 1.90:1.
This film looks a bit like 1997’s Contact, given the subject matter, and that film also featured McConaughey, who appeared alongside Jodie Foster.
Interstellar has a cast of fantastic stars including Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, William Devane, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Ellen Burstyn, John Lithgow and David Oyelowo, and is set to open in the UK on November 7th, the same day as the US.
