John Wick Chapter 2 is out this Friday in cinemas and I didn’t even check to look whether this might be censored as the first one wasn’t and so I wasn’t expecting it here, either, especially since the violence is mostly cartoon-style.
Hence, rather than allow us an uncut 18-certificate, distributors Warner Bros have sanctioned a 15-cert version that cuts out a whacking 23 seconds, the contents of which are as yet unaccounted for.
Keanu Reeves returns as the man who shoots those who wronged his dog last time, and he shoots them in the face, with lots of great CGI blood splatter, but who was to blame for this latest hit of censorship and when is John Wick free to track them down?
The following is the description of why this particular version has attained a 15-certificate, but it doesn’t state what was cut. Either way, I’ll wrap a spoiler band around it for those who don’t want too much revealed:
I’ll still be going to see John Wick Chapter 2 in the cinema as I can’t wait to watch it, but that doesn’t mean I’m sanctioning the censorship. And I’m disgusted at Warner Bros for allowing this and not even making an uncut 18-cert version available. Whatever next? John Wick Chapter 3 as a 12A??!
John Wick Chapter 2 is released this Friday, and more films out this weekend can be seen here.
