Man On Fire – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Man On Fire Man On Fire opens with Special Forces soldier John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen IIAquaman And The Lost Kingdom) in an operation which goes wrong, in Vallejo Industrial Zone, Mexico City, with all his team dead. Four years later, he’s a hard-drinking mess, working in a warehouse, and ready to end it all.

He’s working with old friend Paul Rayburn (Bobby CannavaleBlue Moon), thus has seen his daughter, Poe (Billie Boullet), grow up throughout her life, and a situation develops, such that as terrorists are targeting President Carmo (Billy Blanco Jr) ahead of an election, John has to keep her safe, similar to Denzel and Dakota Fanning in the film.

So, John’s there to taek out the trash in a series which is quite a slow burn, but eventually, he gets into an altercation while drunk, so he can turn on the punching when required – hence, being on fire.

Personally, I wasn’t a fan of the Denzel Washington film. Apart from Crimson Tide, I feel Tony Scott’s directing work went to pot after he frequently teamed up with Denzel. Here, this Man On Fire is very by-the-numbers, and throwing up zero surprises, but with Alice Braga (Hypnotic) towing along for the ride as Valeria Melo, and helping out in return for relocation papers, it’s serviceable enough.

Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.

Man On Fire is on Netflix from today.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
