Mark Hollis, lead singer/songwriter with Talk Talk, who has reportedly died aged just 64.
I heard their music growing up in my early teens and lost track of them after their 1986 album, but they never had as much success as they deserved, yet every single song I’ve ever heard from them is a delight to listen to over and over again. Never made a bad song.
I assume their “Best Of” albums will shoot back into the charts, but it’s a shame it won’t have happened under better circumstances.
Also, I’m not sure which is considered the definitive collection, since both Natural History – The Very Best of Talk Talk and The Very Best Of Talk Talk have slightly different track lists, but there is also The Triple Album Collection with 1997 remasters of The Party’s Over (1982), It’s My Life (1984) and The Colour of Spring (1986).
For now, check out one from each album: Today, It’s My Life and Living In Another World.
