Messiah – The DVDfever Review – Netflix – Mehdi Dehbi

Messiah Messiah Messiah is a new Netflix series, but as for the new guy in town, making proclamataions in Syria – is he really the Messiah, or just a very naughty boy?

Down in Damascus, it highlights just how stupid those bombing the city can be, because what’s left after you’ve blown it all to bits? Not a lot. But then, when were terrorists ever in ownership of brains?

But then along comes the man (Mehdi Dehbi) who claims he’s challenged the Devil, and so on, saying that God will defeat their enemies. However, thanks to the biblical-sized sandstorm that follows, he certainly manages to see ISIS off.

Well, it’s certainly the time for someone to start claiming they have all the answers, although he’s a bit late because Greta Thunberg’s already got there with her speeches written by George Soros.

Looking for answers is CIA bod Eva Geller (Michelle Monaghan), who has almost zero character development other than the fact that we learn she’s going for cancer treatment, indicated by her hair falling out.

Messiah

Our leading man meets a fan…

Messiah soon fell into the trap of the dull and generic, such as when cop Avrim (Tomer Sisley) thinks he sees the ‘messiah’ out and about in episode 2, and chases after him… only to realise it’s just another guy with long hair.

As for the release date, perhaps it should’ve come out around Easter, which is meant to be the time of the resurrection of Jesus?

And even though I watch plenty of foreign films with English subtitles, the dialogue in this is so plodding, and not very accessible. I think they should’ve gone the same route as Chernobyl and spoken English, even though they weren’t in an English-speaking country.

As such, at some points, there are conversations which switch between English and Hebrew mid-conversation, reminding me of the 1992 ill-fated BBC soap, Eldorado. I loved that, but I don’t love this.

So, is he the second coming, as some people think? Eva thinks, instead, he’s more like the new Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. But then people are easily led. Just look at the lunatics who buy up the “man made climate change” propaganda from Greta Thunberg and George Soros! Oh, and Extinction Rebellion who are scaremongering with their ‘facts’ that all your children will die in the next 10-20 years. They really are the next ‘Waco’ in the meaking.

Can this guy just escape form police custody unnoticed? Is he really performing miracles? It poses questions, but I bailed after two episodes. He may or may not be representing Heaven, but he was as boring as Hell.

Messiah is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
