    CHART TIME !

    (* – my current favourites)
(!!! – Single Of The Week!!!)
(:O === the current all-time hate that makes even my smilie want to hurl!)
    ( (R) – Repeat., ie. a re-release)

A brief analysis on the current chart situation…

18 new entries this week, 1 climber, 2 non-movers (Elton John at 3, andSash at 4) and 19 going down.

Big fallers include Jimmy Ray (13 to 26), Smash Mouth (19 to 31) andAsh (10 to 32).

    POP NEWS

    Nothing to report this week.

Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

20 Puff Daddy and the Family – Been Around the World :O ===

Once again Puff Daddy comes up with a dreadful record, following up themassacre of the Police’s “Every Breath You Take”, with what is essentiallya cover of Lisa Stanfield’s “All Around The World” which made No.1 in October1989.

    17 Diana King – I Say A Little Prayer

Having been very quiet since making No.2 in 1995 with “Shy Guy” for thesoundtrack of Bad Boys and then following it up exactly two years ago this week with acover of “Ain’t Nobody”, making No.13, this cover of Aretha Franklin’s classic, which made No.4 in 1968, is too slow to get involved with, and as such justdoesn’t compare at all.

    16 Charlatans – Tellin’ Stories *

Still taking hits from the same album, and now with the title track, theCharlatans get another Top 20 hit with this memorable tune, but still nowherenear as good as tracks like “The Only One I Know”, “Then” and “One To Another”.

    15 Dannii – Everything I Wanted * !!!

Definitely one of the comebacks of the year is Dannii Minogue‘s who, forme, brought back the sound of mid-80s music to the charts with “All I WannaDo”, and this is just as catchy, and if there’s such a word, “unputdownable”.

When’s the album coming out? That’s what I want to know, and certainlysomething I wouldn’t have said for her last one.

7 N-Trance featuring Rod Stewart – Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?

Rod Stewart with extra beats. It was fine as it was, and didn’t need thisextra ‘treatment’.

“Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” originally made No.1 in November 1978.

1 (2) Aqua – Barbie Girl *1st Week at No.1* First ever hit, and this week knocking the Spice Girls off their perch aftera week, for this weird band with a black-haired girl as ‘Barbie’, thepopular young girls doll, singing an endless chanting chorus of :

  • I’m a Barbie Girl,
  • In my Barbie world,
  • Happy plastic, it’s fantastic.
  • You can brush my hair,
  • Undress me everywhere,
  • Imagination, life is your creation.

Yes, it’s catchy, but so is impetigo.

    Dominator’s Top 50 of 1997

    44. Spacehog – In The Meantime

First hit of 1996 for Spacehog, making No.29 in the last week of the yearand for a song which made No.70 in May 96. It starts sounding like a phoneringing out, and slowly builds into a decent rock tune.

First class single, and it sounded like they could go far, but they’ve nothad any more Top 40 hits at all.

    The end bit :

Well, that’s it for now. If you want to be added to the WidescreenVideo and Laserdisc lists, just mail me atCharts Request to tell me.

    Bye for now,
