Of this week’s highlights and lowlights…

27 Incubus – Wish You Were Here * !!!A drop-dead gorgeous single almost on a par with the soft material youmight expect from time to time from Red Hot Chili Peppers.

19 Pod – AliveAnother of those fantastic MTV2 tracks which deserve plenty of radio airplaybut which never get it.

7 Flip & Fill – True Love Never DiesThe vocal once done by Kylie Minogue which was used with Rank 1’s”Airwave”, the theme tune from Channel 4’s “Small Potatoes 2”.

5 Britney Spears – OverprotectedShe looked and sounded good on Frank Skinner’s show but the single israther predictable and dull.

2 A1 – Caught in the MiddleSurprisingly a decent chart single for this boy-band, even if it’s certainlynot worthy of such a high new entry.

1 (NEW) Enrique Iglesias – Hero *1st Week at No.1*

Obviously the PR machine is in operation this time.

He reached No.4 with “Bailamos” in September 1999 and then No.7 inSeptember 2000 with “Could I Have This Kiss Forever”, but after that he’sonly released flop singles. So how has this shot into the top slot?

This is the 3rd single in a row to go straight in at No.1 :

  • 1. Aaliyah – More Than a Woman
  • 2. George Harrison – My Sweet Lord (R)
  • 3. Enrique Iglesias – Hero

Dominator’s Top 50 of 2001After last week’s look back at all the Top 50 tracks of last year, this week sees the list of my Top 50 of 2001. From next week I shallbegin my look back at them.

5. Mudvayne – DigI can’t see this as having a chart position last year, but it was releasedin the US as a DVD single and it’s a fantastic track. Completely mental metaland totally of its head. Full of bad language too, but MTV2 showed a versionthat ran the words together so you couldn’t hear the words.Review copyright © Dominic Robinson, 2002.
