Iron Sky

In 1945 The Nazis Went To The Moon. In 2018 They Are Coming Back.

In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.

Watching the trailer, this looks absolutely bloody awesome. Cracking comedy with fantastic special effects to match.

Iron Sky is released on Blu-ray (£11.99) and DVD (£8.99).

The Artist

It’s 1927 and we meet silent movie star George Valentin (Jean Dujardin) on top of the world. He’s behind the screen; in front of it an ecstatic audience is enthralled by his latest starring role. As the credits roll, Valentin takes the stage for what a virtuosic display of bowing, his canine sidekick performing some cute tricks too.

Outside the theatre, adoring fans and press push and surge to breathe the same air as their hero. A pretty young girl at the front of the crowd drops her wallet, and makes the most of picking it up to slip under the security cordon. There’s silence as Valentin looks shocked, confused, angry even – but it’s all his joke and, laughing at his own power to create such confusion, he gamely poses for photos with the young lady to the delight of the assembled press, and to the chagrin of his stern, world-weary wife who reads of the escapade in the papers the next day.

The young girl – one Peppy Miller (Bérénice Bejo), we learn – having shared a moment with her hero is inspired to follow his path, and turns up at the studio to audition, successfully, as an extra. Valentin himself arrives at the same studio where he is again the star, this time of ‘A German Affair’. On entering the studio the star is enthralled by a pair of legs he sees rehearsing on the other side of a screen. He joins the dance from his side of the screen, and beckons to the set builders to remove the screen, hoping to surprise the girl. It’s he, though, who is surprised to discover the legs belong to the same Peppy Miller from last night’s crowd and this morning’s papers.

The Artist is released on Blu-ray (£14.99) and DVD (£9.99).

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Also known as Journey to the Mysterious Island, this was directed by Brad Peyton and is the sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Sean Anderson accompanies his new stepfather Hank to find his grandfather Alexander who went missing while exploring a lost island. With the help of Gabato and Kailani, they reach the island and find Alexander. After a few harrowing encounters they escape from the island on the submarine Natilus returning home.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Vanessa Hudgens and Michael Caine, it’s definitely a film for kids, and older blokes who want to see Ms Hudgens looks pre-tty hot.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is released on is released on Blu-ray (£14.99) and DVD (£8.99).

Chronicle: Extended Edition

Chronicle begins with no opening credits, and simply with Andrew Detmer (Dane DeHaan, below-right) setting up his video camera which he’ll take with him everywhere. It’s not 100% clear *why* he’s doing this, other than at the start when he begins the practice because of his abusive father, Richard (Michael Kelly). However, after some scene setting with cousin Matt Garetty (Alex Russell, below-left), he comes across school jock and wannabe President Steve Montgomery (Michael B. Jordan, below-centre), who leads him to a mysterious hole in the ground.

First, headstrong Steve goes down, soon joined by Matt. Andrew feels he has no other option than to join them. Once down there, there’s a strange… glowing thing. That’s the only way I can describe it.

Whatever it is, gives the trio the ability to start by moving small items about with the power of their mind… and things get darker from there.

Chronicle: Extended Edition is released on Blu-ray (£14.99) and DVD (£11.99).

Keep It in the Family Series 3

A resounding success over five series, this Thames comedy created by sitcom veteran Brian Cooke (Man About the House) is set in the delightfully chaotic home of Dudley and Muriel Rush, whose daughters, Jacqui and Susan, satisfy a hankering for freedom by moving into the family’s vacant basement flat. Dudley, a gifted cartoonist but an inveterate procrastinator, finds it hard to concentrate amid the ever-increasing number of distractions to the despair of his long-suffering boss, Duncan. But at least he can still keep an eye on his wayward daughters, and their visitors!

Starring Robert Gillespie, Stacy Dorning, Sabrina Franklyn and Pauline Yates, this third series sees Jacqui contemplating marriage, Susan passing her driving test, and Muriel attempting to play matchmaker for hapless bachelor Duncan…

Keep It in the Family Series 3 is released on DVD (£7.99).
