Following on from the article below, published last Monday, has anyone yethad this kick in on their digibox? I have a silver Panasonic Sky box andit hasn’t yet downloaded the software update.

The article was as follows:

“And I put this down to every single person who’s ever campaigned against this’press red’ nonsense, since from today, Sky digital boxes will have softwaredownloaded to them over the next few days to make the red-dot interactivelogo disappear after 30 seconds of changing channel.

After that point, the ‘press red-then-backup’ to remove it completely untilyou change channel will hopefully still be possible.

And all this time, you can still press red to access the content, which meansthat the constant presence of the logo does not need to be in place.

Let’s hope this is the first step to all logos being made an option, so thoseof us who aren’t thick enough to not know what channel we’re watchingcan switch off this irritation for good!”

There were chart-darlings in the ’80s and made a surreal epic album in 1989with Sowing the Seeds of Love. Then came a high-profile split, a coupleof low-profile albums from one of them and then the name just disappearedoff the radar… until now.

However, with the first single, Closest Thing To Heaven, only scrapingin to the chart at No.40, and this album debuting at No.45 last week andfalling out of the Top 75 yesterday, is this the end of the road now thatthe fans are no longer ‘head over heels’ about them?

Let’s hope this is the first step to all logos being made an option, so thoseof us who aren’t thick enough to not know what channel we’re watchingcan switch off this irritation for good!

news page pic March 8th:DJ Tommy Vance dies aged 63…

While the next major update won’t be until next Monday, as well as couple ofcompetition additions, I didn’t want to pass this by until next week as itwas late on Sunday night when I learned that legendary Radio Caroline andRadio 1 DJ Tommy Vance, he of the trademark gravelly voice, died followingtwo strokes, the first after which he was admitted to hospital late last week,in the early hours of Sunday morning at 4am. He was only 63.

I once emailed him several years ago when he presented his VH1 Friday Rock Show, and received a reply inwhich he asked what all the widescreen content on my site was about. I described it in a fair bit of detail,as anyone who knows me might expect, and while I didn’t hear back after that, even getting the one emailfrom him showed that he had some time for everyone, from all those in the industry he worked with who havesince paid tribute to him, to simple members of the public.

R.I.P. Tommy Vance. Like John Peel, who died last October aged 65, Tommy Vance will be sorely missed.
