It is with great sadness that I learned the other day of the death of Elly Roberts, a man who was so passionate about all types of music and loved meeting his musical heroes, such as Mick Hucknall at a book signing at the Trafford Centre, Manchester in 2007.
A former teacher and also a music journalist, DJ and radio presenter on local community station Calon FM, plus appearances on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC Radio 2, Elly started doing reviews for DVDfever.co.uk in 2004 and he did the majority of the CD and concerts reviews on the website (note that I haven’t yet transferred these pages to the new look website).
Today would have been his 57th birthday.
I know, during 2010, he had been going through a very tough time and was hoping for 2011 to be a better year all round. I lost touch with him shortly after that and his email address stopped working so I didn’t know what had happened. Recently, while writing one of my rare music reviews, I wondered what had happened to him, so I went onto his Facebook page and learned the sad news that he passed away in March 2011.
I know also that he loved getting away for the summer to Spain and I hope that wherever he is now he is enjoying the hot sunshine and, as one of his friends has said on his Facebook page, that he is interviewing his musical heroes.
