Out There brings us Martin Clunes (The Acid House) as Nathan Williams, a Welsh farmer in what I thought was going to turn into the Tony Martin situation, a farmer who shot and killed intruder Fred Barras, on his land, and then got in a bit of trub over it, as the lad was apparently running away at that point.
But in Nathan’s case, he plans just to kill badgers on his land, but spots a drone being flown around, the first of a few, causing some consternation, but not as much as the fact that some farmers are selling up because there’s just not enough money in it, these days.
Elsewhere in the line-up, his son, Johnny’s (Louis Ashbourne Serkis – Allelujah!) schoolwork is suffering as he spends too much time playing videogames, and getting in with the wrong sort – cue the old plot device of friend Rhys (Gerran Howell – Ludwig) asking him to store something for a while, but not to ask questions what it is.
I’ve only seen the opener so far, and will most likely watch the rest when shown live, but while I can see things are just scratching the surface so far and I’m avoiding spoilers on here, I’ll stick with it. Plus, whoever chose the music deserves a knighthood or damehood, as there’s some great Pink Floyd in there.
However, who keeps coming up with these brief, bland titles for TV dramas? No-one will remember what it’s about based on ‘Out There’.
And if you’re wondering what the end credits track is, it’s Burning Hell by Tom Jones.
