Blindspot – The DVDfever Review – Channel 5 drama – Beth Alsbury, Ross Kemp

Blindspot Blindspot is a new four-parter drama from Channel 5, most recently giving four hours of airtime to Jo Joyner, with Rachel Shenton trying to act like Rebecca De Mornay from The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.

Here, we see some young women coming home from a night out, including wheelchair-bound Hannah (Beth Alsbury), who chances upon another young woman, Zoe (Haylie Jones) crying. It leads to a pretty grim opening moment, after which sees Hannah having to head off as quickly as possible, if only for her own safety.

For this case, cop Tony (Ross Kemp – who hasn’t aged a day in decades) gets the call to investigate, but Hannah waits, time passes, Thorin sits down and starts singing about gold, and the man who committed the heinous crime is still at large.

A year on, is it all happening again? Hannah’s working at a security firm by this point, and whatever’s taken place in the bin area is the titular blindspot when it comes to cameras. Is it that man again? When the cops can’t find anything, is it that they just don’t care, or that there’s no evidence?

Meanwhile, Tony has been demoted over the years, as his retirement isn’t far away, and he’s lost all respect of his colleagues, but is he as bad as people think?

I’ve been careful not to reveal any spoilers in this review, prior to broadcast, although not a huge amount happens beyond the basic premise that I can manage, and after one episode, I’m not quite sure where this is going – other than being overly daft, or why Hannah’s hair disappeared in the intervening 365 days, since it doesn’t get a mention in the script at all.
