Hot on the heels of its knock-out theatrical release, Universal Pictures International Entertainment is delighted to announce the 28th September 2009 DVD and Blu-ray release of FIGHTING, featuring an extended edition of the film that wasn’t shown in the cinemas. Starring Step Up star Channing Tatum (G.I. Joe, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints), Terrence Howard (Iron Man, Ray, Crash) and stunning newcomer Zulay Henao, FIGHTING puts all other contenders in the shade with its hard hitting heroic tale of one mans struggle for a better life as he competes in high-stakes underground street fights in New York City.
Directed by Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints), this Rocky for a new generation has mass appeal, not only to those whod love an opportunity to watch this Fast and the Furious with fists tale, but to a huge female audience eager for more of the fighting fit Channing Tatum.
Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur (Channing Tatum) arrived in New York City with nothing. Struggling to earn a living selling counterfeit goods on the streets, his luck changes when small-time hustler Harvey Boarden (Terrence Howard) witnesses his natural talent for fighting. Harvey offers Shawn the chance to make serious money by competing in underground street fights.
Shawn has a turbulent past, no friends and nothing in his life to motivate him. Harvey is a two-bit hustler, scraping a living where he can and dreaming of a different life. When he meets Shawn he sees a way to make a quick buck. An uneasy partnership is formed as they test their boundaries of trust.
Shawn falls for Zulay Valez, a bar-maid at a local club. Shes a single mum struggling to make enough money to cover the rent. Seeing the chance of a new life for them both Shawn desperately tries to help her. However, when he finds out she secretly places bets on fights for Harvey it threatens to end their relationship for good.
Harvey introduces Shawn to the dark, corrupt and brutal bare-knuckle fighting circuit, where NYCs rich elite bet on fighters like disposable pawns. Harvey soon realizes Shawn potential and after a series of intense and violent bouts he becomes a star brawler.
Now if Shawn ever hopes to escape the dark world in which hes found himself, he must face the toughest fight of his life against an old adversary. The stakes are higher than ever and winning becomes a matter of life and death for all of them.
The combination of no holds barred fight scenes, gritty action and a story of love, loss and friendship is a moving story that you wont be able to resist. Grab your copy on DVD and Blu-ray on 28th September 2009.
