Favourite characters Hawkeye, Hot Lips, Klinger, Col. Blake et al all return inM*A*S*H Season Two with even more absurd humour, outrageous situations andside-splitting laughs from the 4077th Unit Medical Army Surgical Unit.

M*A*S*H Season Two boasts some of the most timeless and unforgettable momentsin the show’s history. The chaos kicks off in the opening episode Divided WeStand when an army psychiatrist is sent to investigate the 4077th for possiblemental breakdowns. Just as Col. Blake is explaining what a solid, dependablebunch his men are, Klinger enters wearing an evening gown complete with corsage! Will he do anything to get discharged?

Many of the uproarious situations are created by the medics’ weaknesses for aquick buck and distraction from their duties. In Five O’Clock Charlie aninept North Korean enemy provides much-needed entertainment for the medics andsoldiers with an ineffectual daily bombing run. Hawkeye and the rest takebets on how far Charlie is going to miss the target by, but when GeneralClayton arrives to see if he’s won the bet the pilot finally hits something…the General’s jeep!

M*A*S*H’s light, satiric brilliance is evident throughout this second series. In Dr. Pierce and Mr. Hyde, Frank explains that the reason for the war liesbehind the communists’ jealousy of the superior Western quality of life;American bathrooms are just far superior! Hawkeye deduces that the quickestway to end the hostilities is to show the North Koreans that American latrinesare actually quite unpleasant. He finds a suitable cubicle and tows it.The plan seemed to be a winner, were it not for the fact that a stunnedGeneral Clayton was using it at the time!

This landmark show is true classic viewing across all generations and remainslegendary to audiences today. Its spirit is encapsulated by the visitingpsychiatrist in the M*A*S*H Season 2 opener Divided We Stand:

“These impossible people are in an impossible place doing totally impossible things. They’re mad, quite mad.”
