rio-2Easter is just two weeks away, so some of the early blockbusters are here, along with something a little more leftfield.

This week’s selections are: Rio 2, Noah, Divergent and The Double.

Rio 2

It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they’re hurtled Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon…

The massive cast features Anne Hathaway, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro, John Leguizamo, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, Jamie Foxx, Kristin Chenoweth, Andy Garcia, Will.i.Am and Bruno Mars.

Hit or Miss? Verdict: If you have children, it’s a Hit!

Noah

Noah stars Russell Crowe as the titular man with a big ark, ready to save the world two animals at a time, and there’s a new trailer which has been released, introduced by his wonderful co-star Emma Watson.

In a film directed, and co-written, by Darren Aronofsky, it also stars Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, Douglas Booth, Anthony Hopkins, Ray Winstone, Kevin Durand and Nick Nolte, it looks like this will be a big-screen treat whether or not you’re religious. I’m not and I just want to see a kick-ass piece of big screen entertainment.

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!

Divergent

In a future world where people are divided into factions based on personality, a teenager is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, her life is threatened.

Kate Winslet and Shailene Woodley lead the cast which also includes Ashley Judd, Ray Stevenson, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Tony Goldwyn, Zoë Kravitz and Mekhi Phifer.

Hit or Miss? Verdict: A possible Hit!

The Double

The Double is a new film from director and comedian Richard Ayoade (Submarine, The IT Crowd), starring Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) and Mia Wasikowska (Stoker, Only Lovers Left Alive).

Jesse Eisenberg plays Simon, a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams, Hannah, played by Mia Wasikowska. He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

The Double also stars Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, Cuban Fury, The IT Crowd), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine), James Fox (A Passage To India), Gemma Chan (Exam, Dates), Cathy Moriarty (Raging Bull), Rade Serbedzija (Taken 2, X-Men: First Class), Paddy Considine (The World’s End, Tyrannosaur), Yasmin Paige (Submarine), Nathalie Cox (Exam, Clash of the Titans), Wallace Shawn (Toy Story 3), Chris Morris (Brass Eye), Tim Key (Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) and is released in the UK on April 4th and it looks very intriguing.

Hit or Miss? Verdict: Hit!
