RIPOUT on PC / Steam – The DVDfever Mini-Review

RIPOUT RIPOUT attracted me as it feels like a DOOM-style shooter, although it’s not quite that straight-forward.

As with the original first-person-shooter, you’ll traverse dark corridors, blasting seven shades out of whatever comes your way, not only with the usual array of implements, but also with a raging ‘Pet Gun’ with which you can set them to jump on the baddies and tear them apart, but it’s a roguelite, so the placement of objects and tasks will change when you replay the same area after dying – and you die a LOT! In fact, given how much I did die, I found that quite offputting.

Items that move about, early on, include a laptop and the computer system with which to use it.

However, i played it for about two hours, and kept either getting killed by a big freaky bugger or one of its ‘dogs’, to the point where it just wasn’t fun any more, and I’d had enough.

I also don’t do multiplayer, so maybe that didn’t help my case when I’d die, and didn’t have anyone around to revive me. It was just me up against all the baddies that wanted to eat me in the dark. However, respawning all the way back to the beginning of the level is a real pain.

At the time of posting this, if you must buy RIPOUT, there are bundle options on the Steam page which make it cheaper to buy RIPOUT WITH another game, than on its own.

Thanks to our friends at Pet Project Games and 3D Realms for the review code for this game.

RIPOUT is out now on PC/Steam, and the respective online stores for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
