Run – The DVDfever Review – Domhnall Gleeson comedy

Run Run is a new comedy series on Sky starring Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Peter Rabbit) and Merritt Wever (Marriage Story) – as Billy and Ruby – with a ridiculous premise in that 17 years earlier, they made a pact…

If one or the other texted the word “RUN” and the other replied with the same, they would immediately drop everything in their lives, meet in Grand Central Station and travel across America together. After all, what are the odds that one or both would’ve changed their number in all that time? But let’s try and go with it…

Before getting into the meat of this, I knew the pains of middle-aged life can be ridiculously tedious, but 17 years on from college, and you’d have a life, such as with a mortgage and/or a significant other.

Along the way. they make pranks such as if she’s requested paper towls for him due to an’accident’ in his trousers, they argue, there are secrets between the pair and also some chemistry

Overall, though, I just can’t quite get a handle on this, given how ridiculous the premise is. Maybe it’ll come together? So far, I’ve only seen two episodes and all I’ll say in addition is that while the opener has a good point on which to begin, the series does include flashbacks to showing what led to the situation in which they now find themselves.

And as for the premise, why did he text? Ah, that answer you’ll only find by watching it.

Also, if you’re a fan of Fleabag and Killing Eve, one of the executive producers is Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

UPDATE Episode 3: Well, I tried a third episode, but I just can’t find anything likeable about the two lead characters, nor anyone else, really, and thus, I don’t care what the outcome us.

Run begins on Sky Comedy on Wednesday April 15th at 9pm, and is broadcast weekly. The series is not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
