The Assembly seems famous people being asked questions by autistic, neurodivergent and/or learning-disabled interviewers, where nothing is off limits. As such, when one of the group mentions to Danny Dyer his character in Eastenders, to which he replies, “So, you liked Mick Carter, then?”, to which comes the honest reply, “I mainly watch Coronation Street and Emmerdale”. It’s nice to have some honesty!
He’s unapologetic about rightly calling David Cameron a “twat“, along with his endless swearing (Dyer’s, not Cameron’s).
Other questions include being asked how much he got paid for presenting The Wall, and “Do you want to fight me?”
Add in discussions about his occasional drugs habit, his daughter, Dani, being on Love Island, as well as “Why name her Dani?”, and… well, I’m not going to give the answers, here. You’ll need to watch the programme for those.
Having seen Danny Dyer at a recent Odeon screening for Marching Powder, and then getting a selfie with him afterwards, he really is an absolutely lovely person, and despite the staff trying to move him on, out of the building (understandably, as the film was over), he wanted to stay and get pictures with everyone!
It’s a difficult programme to review, because I don’t want to spoil any answers, and I have nothing bad to say about it, and overall, this is a must-see!
It’s certainly a better online viewing experience than the awful modern Doctor Who! To that end, I’m surprised they didn’t put David Tennant’s episode first, as it’s a Saturday. That said, it’s clear this one was filmed after Tennant’s, as one participant tells Dyer, “You’re my favourite actor”, and this is the only answer I’ll disclose, he replies, “I bet you said that to David Tennant, as well!)”
For whatever reason, this episode didn’t become available for review, but on the day they’re broadcast, they’re also published on ITVX.
The Assembly begins tonight on ITV at 10.05pm, and is already on ITVX. Additionally, ITV are making it available on Youtube, so I’ve linked the episode below.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but if it is in future, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
