My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of THE F-WARD on CHANNEL 4!

The F-Ward The F-Ward centres around a group of newbies trying to complete their medical internships, so Aussie Scrubs for drama.

Of the interns, they’re all an emotional mess – Ellie (Lola Bond) cries too much, another woman says she has ADHD and expected to be treated differently, while one bloke is the typical slacker type.

Leading the team is chief surgeon Dr. Gloria Wall (Anna Friel), who helpfully tells them “Please try not to kill anyone“.

However, after beginning by being assigned to triage or helping with theatre surgery, the hospital soon has endless problems, from power dropouts to staff shortages.

Amongst a storm, unseen incidents – which E.R. would’ve shown – mean there’s an influx of critical patients, but The F-Ward just has none none of the urgency that the aforementioned medical drama would get across to the viewer.

Add in an old woman who isn’t medically unwell, but regularly comes in to tell the staff that she’s thinking about jumping out of a window, and this show is all predictable as hell, even if it does have all the usual blood and gore that can come from extreme situations in other medical dramas.

Anna Friel is stunning at 50, but other than that, I just can’t find any reason to get excited about The F-Ward. This acquisition for Channel 4 is starting off around 9pm to give it a chance, but like a lot of such shows on terrestrial channels, give it a couple of weeks, and it’s bound to get shoved into the wee small hours.

Saturday (and Sunday, to that end) nights should be movie nights, but Channel 4 seem to be moving away from that, for some reason.

Thanks to our friends at Channel 4 for the screener prior to release.

The F-Ward begins tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm, continues the following night, and then is on each Tues/Weds for the subsequent two weeks. Once broadcast, all episodes will be on All 4.

It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
