Make That Movie is a new Channel 4 sitcom where Mick (Kim Noble) works at a print shop, presumably wanting life to be more exciting.
He wants to create a film that centres around a couple that can turn into snakes, leading to filmmaker Sam (Sam Campbell – Bloods) wanting to… yes, as per the title.
The first problem with this is noticed immediately. It’s played very straight, but it’s not in a deadpan way like Twenty Twenty Six, and just comes across as rather cringe.
The script, from Campbell, is so flat. It’s like there’s an audience watching, ready to laugh at anything funny… and the’re staying silent. I was wondering what I’m imssing here, where those who wanted to “Make That TV Series” thought this was funny.
Then I realised, it’s NOT me. Make That Movie is on a par with SNL UK for “not a single moment is humourous, and every scene makes me wonder why it was commissioned”. Given that at least one episode’s story comes from that Sky TV programme’s Paddy Young, that explains the lack of laughs, and why everyone looks bored to be there.
As an aside, every episode is a different film, the first two being Snake Switch, and Synthezonian Elders. For all the difference that makes.
Thanks to our friends at Channel 4 for the screener prior to release.
Make That Movie begins tomorrow on Channel 4 at 10pm, and airs two episode each week. After broadcast, each episode will be on All 4.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
