The Feud feels more like a tiff, initially, as a man is shown around a house that’s become available, even if it needs a lot of work doing to it, including a new kitchen, but gets scared a
way when Emma Barnett (Jill Halfpenny – The Cuckoo) gives him a look as if she’s about to go full ‘Donald Sutherland’ from Invasion of the Body Snatchers!
It’s one of those dramas that then goes back to an earlier point in time, this one being “one month earlier”, where she’s looking all wistful and romantic. Must be on her period… She’s married to Adam from Spooks, who’s looking better, these days, since he was blown up in that car bomb.
Actually, played by Rupert Penry-Jones (who also starred alongside Ms Halfpenny in 2021’s The Drowning), his character name is actually John, and their daughter is Beth (Megan Trower), because they form part of a deeply religious sect that doesn’t allow any more than four letters in their first name.
The next day, there’s a party goin’ on right here, a celebration to last throughout the years… well, more like just that day, since all the street party is in a right mess for no apparent reason – you’d think someone would’ve cleared it away because streets are normally reserved for traffic, except when morons are racing around on e-bikes.

Emma’s thinking of having a new kitchen extension, but tells all the neighbours it won’t affect their light, even though, legally, it apparently doesn’t matter what they say. Well, in reality, I’m sure it does, because other houses have what’s known as a “right to light”, so you can’t just erect some huge behemoth and block out the sun.
John’s resigned from his job for reasons not yet explained, nor even stating what his former employment was, but don’t worry, because Emma’s good at her lawyer job. Well… *DOUBT* because she doesn’t understand about “right to light” as described.
So, it’s left to nerdy, blonde Beth to show some brains in the family, as she’s doing an school project… unfortunately, it only seems to annoy the neighbours, because she’s taking secret pictures of them.
We’re initally just getting introductions so far, in the form of gruff builder Lee (Chris Gascoyne) – which made me feel like this was an episode of Homes Under The Hammer, cop PC Gallagher (Jamie Lee O’Donnell – Screw) – who’s involved in one of Beth’s cases, and fusspot Nick (Alex Macqueen), who doesn’t want a load of noise with the extension being done as he works nights, thus has to sleep during the day.
As for the rest, they made me realise that instead of having work done on the place, Emma and family may as well just move house, because most of her neighbours are complete, moaning arseholes!
But… ooh, is someone playing away? Either way, it feels like some people haven’t got enough to do with their time.
Some people need to be opening their mouths, though…
Beyond disappointed with @channel5_tv #thefeud. Acting feels wooden, forced and something from drama school. Unable to understand what Ray Fearon is saying as his mouth doesn’t open when he talks. Just me? 🥴
