My BRUTALLY HONEST REVIEW of THE LAST FRONT!

The Last Front The Last Front takes us to Belgium, 1914, where not-at-all Belgian farmer Leonard (Iain GlenResident Evil: The Final Chapter) sees World War I kicking off as the Germans come to town. Still, at least he doesn’t attempt any sort of accent, unlike whatever Anna Maxwell Martin was trying to attempt as Canadian in ITV’s Until I Kill You.

Seeing Laurentz (Joe AndersonDoctor Who: Boom) leading the troops to assassinate the villagers is the last thing he needs, following his wife, Elsie’s, death in in 1909, aged just 46. He’s struggling to keep it together, but you know he’s going to be pitched as the hero of the piece.

Until now, he’s led a simple life with his daughter, Johanna (Emma Dupont), and son, Adrien (James Downie), who’s currently dating Louise (Sasha LussValerian and the City of a Thousand Planets 3D), but the happy times are about to be upset by the Nazis, who don’t play nice when they see the Resistance killing a German.

The Last Front is one of those films where the enemy starts off in their native accents, but soon change so they no longer require subtitles. However, when English is spoken them, I’ve heard better cod-German accents in Allo Allo!

At one point, Leonard creates a ring of fire that burns, burns, burns… while when it comes to Commander Maximilian Von Rauch (Philippe Brenninkmeyer)… (brief spoiler below, if you can’t predict the obvious)

Whether or not good will triumph over evil is so ridiculously obvious, and it feels like the script was generated by AI. At least the title, The Last Front, ensures there won’t be a sequel!

There is no mid- or post-credit scene.

The Last Front is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
