The Nun is coming to get you in and around the New Year, as New Line Cinema’s horror thriller explores another dark corner of the Conjuring universe, whose record-setting films have terrified audiences around the globe.
The film stars Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir (Weeds, A Better Life) as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga (TV’s American Horror Story) as Sister Irene, and Jonas Bloquet (Elle) as local villager Frenchie.
Personally, I’ll be watching for Toni Erdmann stunning Ingrid Bisu (above), and the demonic Nun Valak first made her evil presence known in The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Case.
Synopsis: When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront the malevolent force, Nun Valak, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
DVD feature: A New Horror Icon
Blu-ray features: A New Horror Icon, Gruesome Planet, The Conjuring Chronology, Over 10 minutes of deleted scenes
The Nun is released on digital HD on December 31st, and both Blu-ray and DVD on January 14th.
Previously on DVDfever:
June 19th:
The Nun centres around a priest with a haunted past, as well as a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows, who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.
But… Annabelle was a prequel to The Conjuring, and The Nun is a prequel to both of them. And no doubt, we’ll get another sequel to a prequel.
Risking not only their lives, but their faith and their very souls, it turns out this is the same nun which came about in those other two films, as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
The Nun is released in the UK on September 7th. My chance of watching this jump-scare-fest? Nun*…
