The Walk-In – The DVDfever Review – ITV drama – Stephen Graham

The Walk-In The Walk-In begins with a far-right lunatic man walking into a store with a knife, shouting “White Power!” and attacks anyone for whom he doesn’t like their colour. Based on the CCTV footage, he’s understood to be a member of National Action.

Enter Matthew Collins (Stephen GrahamBoiling Point), a lecturer teaching his class how 1 in 5 terrorists behind bars are white, because they’re Neo Nazis. He reveals that 20 years ago, he used to be one of them, but his lesson of the day is about how he’s changed.

Meanwhile, local layabouts Robbie (Andrew EllisDough) and Stan (Kent RileyLittle Boy Blue) – the latter of whom thinks every Pakistani man is in a grooming gang because he’s been brainwashed – go to knock on a door, pretending ot fit an alarm, with the intention of gaining access to the house because of the Muslim family within, but they’re not bright, and the homeowner won’t allow them in because neither are married, and the man has his daughters in his house, so for the idiots to enter is a no-no.

However, we see that this is just the first stepping stone into the evil world for Robbie.

Meanwhile, Matthew is tasked, by Nick Lowles (Jason FlemyngThe Iron Mask), with infiltrating the far-right gang, with this opener also taking in the murder of MP Jo Cox, after which National Action want to start from there and ramp things up a few gears.

This is a promising first episode, but does rather feel like just a taster of what’s to come.

NOTE: I’m avoiding spoilers in this, and I’ve only seen the first episode, but I’ll check out more as they come, and update this review.

The Walk-In begins on Monday October 3rd on ITV at 9pm. It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.

After each episode is broadcast, they will be on the ITV Hub.
