veronica marsAnother week, another set of films and there are four for your delight and delictation and… possibly to pass on seeing. This week’s selections are: Veronica Mars, Need for Speed, The Zero Theorem and Ironclad: Battle for Blood.

Veronica Mars

Years after walking away from her past as a teenage private eye, Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) gets pulled back to her hometown – just in time for her high school reunion – in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring), who’s embroiled in a murder mystery.

The show’s original creator, Rob Thomas, takes directing and co-writing credits for this long-awaited big-screen release which was funded through a Kickstarter project, and was shot in 23 days. Filming began on June 17th 2013 and wrapped on July 23rd. Exactly 11 months later after the Kickstarter campaign was launched, on February 12th, 2014, the film’s post-production was finally completed.

Veronica Mars also stars Krysten Ritter, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra, Percy Daggs III, Chris Lowell and Tina Majorino, and this is a definite must for all fans of Veronica Mars and Kristen Bell.

Need For Speed

In attempting to make a film out of a videogame – yet again, this one sees Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) released from prison after being framed by a wealthy business associate, and then who joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.

Also starring Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots and Scott Mescudi, this looks pretty terrible and as vapid as the Fast And Furious series. If you like those, you’ll probably go and see this while you’re waiting for F&F7.

And I can’t begin to imagine why it needs to run for 130 minutes.

The Zero Theorem

A computer hacker whose goal is to discover the reason for human existence continually finds his work interrupted thanks to the Management; namely, they send a teenager and lusty love interest to distract him.

Directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, Lucas Hedges, Matt Damon, Ben Whishaw, Tilda Swinton and Sanjeev Bhaskar, any Gilliam film is worth a watch and this looks very intriguing indeed, particularly with the presence of Christoph Waltz.

A survivor of the Great Siege of Rochester Castle fights to save his clan from from Celtic raiders in a sequel to 2011’s Ironclad.
