War is a new drama which has already been commissioned for a second season, which will feature Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood, but for its inaugural run, the warring parties are tech entreprenuer and philanthropist Morgan Henderson (Dominic West – Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale) – who received this year’s Pioneer of the Year Award, and actress Carla Duval (Sienna Miller – My Mother’s Wedding).
Divorce is on the cards after he couldn’t keep it in his pants, and his conquest, Flora Monroe (Rose Williams – Curfew), took a picture of the pair in bed for posterity… and her socials.
However, this drama is more about the two competing law firm on London, Cathcarts, and Taylor & Byrne, than it is about Henderson and Duval.
Hence, we spend a great deal of time in the presence of Johnny Warren (Archie Renaux – Alien Romulus), a young man who wants to get a job with Miles Jupp’s firm, Cathcarts, although he’s happy to jump ship to their opponent if he gets a better offer. It’s not like he has many cards to play in advance, though, given that his current employment is as a waiter.
The problem with War is, that it spends too long dealing with other characters – when the trailers are full of West and Miller, plus it also goes into the minutae about each element of divorce, and leads to a drama that’s staggeringly boring. Even when we DO get the two leads, it feels like they’re just turning up to cash the cheque.
War is on Sky Atlantic from Friday October 2nd.
It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but when it is, it will be listed on the New DVD, Blu-ray, 3D and 4K releases UK page.
However, you can buy the novel in paperback.
