White Lines – The DVDfever Review – Daniel Mays – Netflix

White Lines White Lines… don’t do it… except when it’s a Netflix series.

The story begins when a young man’s body has been found out in Almería, Spain, but this can’t be considered an accident of any sorts, because he’s been there for 20 years and the body is mummified, as a result.

The young man is Axel Collins (Tom Rhys Harries, 15 Days), who left Manchester to go to Ibiza to party 24/7 and live the high life like it was some sort of calling for him, so how did he ultimately end up in Almeria?

Thrown into the mix is friend and fellow DJ Marcus Ward (the omni-present Daniel Mays, Code 404), who’s made a nice life for himself, with a large house and a family. Meanwhile, another friend going over there, and sister of Axel is Zoe Walker (Laura Haddock, Transformers: The Last Knight) who needs to get to the bottom of this. Does Marcus know more than he’s letting on? After all, he was in Ibiza at the time that Axel went missing.

So, the hunt is on to find out what happened to the young man.

Along the way, it’s inadvertently amusing in places, but it does rather go on and there’s a lot of disconnected storylines in the first episode, such as how Angela Griffin‘s (Isolation Stories) character, Anna, has a weird orgy going on for the opulent upper classes. Will it ever join together?

One thing that is connecting so far is that the place is a haven for drugs – with cocaine being hidden in a floating banana boat, but it’s still a bit hit or miss at this point. I’ll check out more, but I do hope it comes together better, since if it wants to carry you along to the conclusion, you’ve got ten episodes in total, each around an hour in length.

White Lines is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
