Who is Erin Carter? Well, in the two episodes I’ve seen so far, that is the question asked at one point in them, but what is the answer?
Googling won’t help, since that defaults to Aaron Carter, and that’s a whole different situation…
For this Erin Carter (Evin Ahmad), she’s |escaping from a situation unknown with her daughter, Harper (Indica Watson – The Midwich Cuckoos), then it moves to Barcelona, 5 years later. Everything is fine, but after using a supermarket toilet, strange things are afoot at the Circle K… there’s an armed robbery taking place. Can she somehow take control of the situation? Is her unknown past coming back to haunt her? Some, all or none of these questions will be answered in the next few minutes…
By day, she’s a supply teacher, but by the end of a very slow opener, it does establish that she’s quite the badass, and daughter Harper is following in her footsteps by beating up annoying lad Antonio at school, topping it off being nicely sarcastic towards him.
Erin’s cop friend, Jordi (Sean Teale), will help her, but it involves talking to gangs, and getting a look-see around a building, a la Hitman, plus there’s also the obligatory weird stuff happening in any drama. However, even in a certain sequence in the first episode which I don’t want to spoil by detailing it, she still has to juggle the crazy double life of being in education, whilst acting like Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde.
As an aside, Susannah Fielding is in this as head teacher Olivia, plus Douglas Henshall as the father of a young lad called Dylan. So many English actors apparently living out in Barcelona! Who knew?
And most important, 30 mins into the opener, she’s talking to the actor Andy Lucas, aka the cop from Eldorado!
He couldn’t act then, and he can’t act now, but who cares, because Eldorado rules! Following Amazon bringing back Neighbours, I wish someone would do the same for the Spanish-set soap opera!
Thanks to our friends at Netflix for the screener prior to release.
Who Is Erin Carter? is not available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD, but is on Netflix from today.
