Without Sin centres around Stella (Vicky McClure – Trigger Point) who, together with her ex-husband, Paul (Perry Fitzpatrick – Line Of Duty), have been asked to meet with Charles (Johnny Harris – The Salisbury Poisonings), the man who murdered their 14-year-old daughter, Maisy, three years ago.
Her life has understandably fallen apart after that, so she spends her nights driving a taxi, to avoid having to think those horrendous thoughts during the night.
Avoiding spoilers, as we expect from the image to accompany the series, Stella does decide to meet Charles, and for such a scheme which takes plac in a safe environment, I can understand that’s at least something, compared to the likes of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, who committed ‘The Moors Murders’ and wouldn’t tell the families where their childrens’ bodies were buried.
Her liaison is told it’s just the first meeting, to which Stella replies, “Yeah, and it’ll be the last”, but as someone who watches far too much TV, I can work out that if she followed through what she’s said in the opener, then there’d be sparse content for the remaining three episodes.
I didn’t see the trailer until after I watched the first episode, and found there’s certainly more to this than I was expecting, including a great deal of tension packed into it, so I will watch the rest.
UPDATE End of series: (includes spoilers)
Without Sin begins on ITV tonight at 9pm, and is shown over four consecutive nights. It’s already available to stream in full on ITVX now. It’s not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
