Justice League – am I the only one looking forward to this movie because the critics are ganging up against it?
Telegraph stated the “superhero embarrassment is beyond saving” while Vanity Fair called it “a big, ugly mess”. Meanwhile, the Metro just moaned that they couldn’t print their review today due to the press embargo, and concluded their brief few words “Enough said”, so we know they hate it, too. They also referred to it as the “troubled superhero movie” because it was started by Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) who stepped down from the project following the tragedy of his daughter’s suicide. Joss Whedon (Cabin In The Woods, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) took over and 15-20% of the film went through reshoots.
However, what about when the press gush aplenty over other movies like Paddington 2, Spider-Man Homecoming (which I called ‘Spider-shabby’) and Dunkirk, the latter of which was very good – and I gave it 8.5/10, but it was nowhere near a TEN. I’ve said for a while how they clearly do this JUST to get their publication names on the poster.
(Note: I haven’t seen the new movie featuring the bear from darkest Peru, and I will do, but nothing about it says ‘must-see at the cinema’ – the first one was good, but sequels rarely improve on an original)
Plus, when it comes to slamming a film, it’s in order to become a member of the ‘cool club’, as they all did with Transformers: The Last Knight, which wasn’t perfect by a long shot, but as it’s the ONLY live-action 3D movie this year to actually have been FILMED in 3D, it looks all the better for it.
They all slammed Suicide Squad and I really enjoyed that, so that also shows why they’re wrong in spades.
Oh, and another good reason to see this week’s big release is because it’s a mere two hours long! Well, 121 minutes, but for a superhero movie, that’s pretty short. BvS was two minutes over three hours in its extended form, while Spidey and Wonder Woman were bordering on an unnecessary two-and-a-half-hours in length.
Oh, but about a potential extended special edition? Well, that’s said to be unlikely, since after the change of director and with the reshoots, it appears the film has gone as far as it’s going to go in terms of evolution.
I’m aiming to see Justice League this Friday. Are you looking forward to it?
Oh, and I’ll also see it in 2D, as it wasn’t shot in 3D. Nor IMAX.
