Today is World Psoriasis Day, and both comedian Toby Hadoke and The University of Manchester’s Dr Christine Bundy appeared on BBC Breakfast to talk about it and their discussion is below.
Toby has an engaging Psoriasis Blog online about his condition, and I suffer from eczema which is also no fun, but if you want to know about the differences, then there are some worthy links on mariobadescu.com and healthgrades.com.
I keep meaning to make a vlog about my eczema but maybe I should just blog it instead as it’s ongoing. I get it on my fingers. Sometimes it’s down to a small bit, but then it can go up to a dull roar and before long, feel like they’d be more comortable on fire. Sometimes, they get to the point where various fingers itch like mad, then since scratching makes them worse, I do what I’ve seen described as ‘burning’ which is basically holding the irritated finger/thumb under a warmish tap, letting it get warmer until it get hot and then when I go ‘ow’ I take it away.
While that may make me sound completely hatstand, it feels better than an orgasm. Unfortunately, it then makes the finger or thumb look close to the colour of beetroot. I try to do it only on ‘substantial’ fingers, and also the thumb. However, sometimes I’ve got so bad that I’ve worn a plaster to work to stop it bleeding everywhere. And when someone brings out a birthday card to sign (which is generally 100% white), I have to look at my hands to work out how I’m going to negotiate this.
In fact, as I begin to type this I think maybe a blog is a good idea. I’ve tried a couple of things before but nothing that was long-lasting. I occasionally use Dermovate overnight with some cotton gloves. Unfortunately, because I’m also an idiot, I sometimes fall asleep in front of the TV at night, then wake up in the middle of the night, too tired to remember to do the Dermovate when I go to bed, and by then it won’t be as much use anyway, and so it doesn’t get done that night.
I realise that reviewing my eczema will have little in common with reviewing movies and videogames, but while the pain of eczema comes and goes, the pain of Terminator Genisys will never go away…
And if my eczema blog takes off to the point where I no longer have to work in a normal day job, then I might just able to ‘scratch’ a living out of it. (I’m here all week, tip your waitress)
