24 Live Another Day to premiere at 1am on Sky 1 – but why?

1amJack Bauer is back after four years in the wilderness, but while you’d expect him to be airing in prime time, the first two episodes of the new, shorter 12-episode season, will air in a double bill at 1am on Tuesday May 6th, but why?

The new season will mostly take place in London, with Jack (Kiefer Sutherland) getting about with Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub) out in the field for the second time in the show’s history, and the cast also includes returnees Kim Raver (Audrey Raines) and William Devane , plus newcomers Michael Wincott, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Giles Matthey, Yvonne Strahovski (Hannah McKay in Dexter), Benjamin Bratt, Tate Donovan from Hostages, and Stephen Fry as the British Prime Minister.

So, why does it start in the small hours of the morning? This is because Sky 1 viewers will be watching the episodes at exactly the same time as viewers in the USA, which is as close as Sky can get it, and it follows in the footsteps over this week’s premiere of Game of Thrones Season 4, which aired at 2am in the early hours of Monday morning on Sky Atlantic.

These first two episodes will again be shown at 9pm on Wednesday May 7th, and each subsequent episode will air at 9pm on Wednesdays.
