Love and Leashes centres around Jiwoo Jung (pop star, Seohyun) and Jihoo Jung (Joon-Young Lee), who start working for the same PR company, and in the same office within, initially with everyone commenting on how they have very similar names.
Working with a sexist boss, and initially dealing with a Youtuber who’s made homophobic comments, before proactive Jiwoo stops this from continuing, after a while, a package has arrived… It belongs to Jihoo, but as he’s had it delivered to the office, Jiwoo got there first, only to find it contains a kinky sex collar for some Fifty Shades shenanigans.
He tries to hide the truth behind it, but she sees through it – and since she’s in the dating game, she doesn’t seem fazed by his BDSM behaviour. In fact, she’s intrigued by it.
Initially, they’re as awkward around each other as teenagers, and he’s worried she’ll think he’s a pervert, to which she thinks everyone’s perverted to some degree, at which point he jumps in with both feet and asks her to be his Master. Hmm….
The trouble with the two leads, is that they both come across as rather a wet blanket, so it comes across as unbelievable when Jiwoo seems to have a complete personality change once she gets into it, even going along with some play acting, starting to treat Jihoo like a dog, and offer him dog treats. And that’s before it gets like Body of Evidence with the candlewax…
In addition, it also shows Jihoo thinking back to a dire, previous relationship – which just pads out the running time and doesn’t have a huge bearing on the film’s story, leaving Love and Leashes as tedious as it is implausible, and as much so as the real Fifty Shades movies.
Thing is, it’s not a great idea to date people in the workplace… or maybe it is, since they’re likely to be the people you see the most. You decide.
Love and Leashes is on Netflix now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
