My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 – The DVDfever Cinema Review – Nia Vardalos

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 comes out just as summer ends, and I wonder who keeps asking for these, since they’re so sporadic, having been released in 2002, 2016 and 2023.

I haven’t seen 1 and 2, prior to watching this, but I doubted it would really matter, plot-wise. Based on the trailer, it didn’t exactly look at complex as The Usual Suspects.

Everyone’s going to Greece, again, this time because one of the brood is marrying Qamar (Stephanie NurSpecial Ops: Lioness), an immigrant from Syria, so yes, there’s another Greek wedding (while trying to add in some social commentary about immigration), although when it actually got to that point, I don’t recall actually seeing it onscreen! Still, Toula (Nia Vardalos), Ian (John Corbett) and co. head out to a very picturesque village, albeit without Toula’s elderly Mum, since she’s out to lunch, not realising her husband is dead.

Ian’s daughter, Paris (Elena KampourisJupiter’s Legacy), just happens to meet ex-b/f Aristotle (Elias Kacavas), even though she ghosted him a year earlier, and has a lame excuse for it – will they get together? In reality, what would be the point?! Meanwhile, Toula’s brother, Nick (Louis MandylorRambo: Last Blood) – who wants to spread Dad’s ashes at the oldest tree, is frequently being gross, such as by shaving at the breakfast table, and doing his nose and ear hairs, and later cutting his toenails. In fact, I thought Qamar was going to leave her husband and go for Nicks, but that never came about. Plus, when it came to an actual wedding, where was it? We never saw it!

And no-one’s fat, anyway! Except, maybe, Joey Fatone?

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is a gentle comedy which features lots of one liners in the first half – not laugh-out-loud, but they raise a chuckle and are worth a watch. There’s also snappy dialogue at times, so that was better than I was expecting.

However, because it’s 2023, the female taxi driver is “non-binary”. Plus, there’s daft plotting as they’re all meant to go to a hotel, but she insists – because everyone is family – that they stay at a horrible run-down house where they have to sleep in one room.

Later, all the young lot go to the bar with Qamar, and leave their drinks on the bar – unguarded – while dancing…. seriously?!

As I stated earlier, I haven’t seen the first two films, but I feel that if I did, I’d just end up seeing the same film over and over.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is in cinemas now, and is available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD.
