Nemesis opens in Beverly Hills, at Halloween, where married couple Coltrane (Y’lan Noel) and Ebony (Cleopatra Coleman – Black Rabbit) blag their way into a bedroom for some hanky-panky, but they’re actually hacking the CCTV system and robbing the casino section of a fancy dress party… while dressed as robbers!
On the side of the good guys is Detective Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law), who lost a cop partner on the job in 2024.
Elsewhere, dialogue is like Franklin and Lamar arguing in GTA V. Then there’s soap opera-style scenes between couples, including dull hanky-panky scens; while some scenes are effectively turned into music videos, as if they’re trying to be the new Miami Vice.
Later, they plan to rob from three jewelery stores on the trot, all while wearing what looks like Deaf Punk-style whole facemasks made of diamonds. How you see through that, I don’t know. Poor writing is also on show, when there’s always someone amongst the customers who thinks they can take down big-gun-toting baddies with a tiny pistol stuffed down their socks. How do you think that’ll play out?
Still, good to know the thieves keep things on the down-low by living in MAHOOSIVE HOUSES! So, less Boyz N The Hood, and more Boyz N The Big Neighbourhood.
As an aside, in Isaiah’s kitchen, why put very hot plates on the worktops, right after coming out of the oven? Get a placemat! And in a restaurant, why would you have burger and chips WITHOUT ketchup?! You’d also use cutlery, and when Isaiah picks up his burger, it has a stake through it. As he brings it close to his mouth, the stake is gone… and then it’s back when he puts it down again.
And why does every last thing need to be poured-over in family therapy, whenever they have a slight disagreement? WTF is that about?! Who has the time and money for that?!
