Midweek charts to return…?
Yesterday I had an email from Phil Matcham, claiming to representTheofficialcharts.com, stating that by presenting the Midweek Charts on hereI am breaching their copyright, and that the info is only available to recordand retail company personnel and cannot be distributed in any form.
In that case, why does The Sun‘s Dominic Moran give out such info inhis Wednesday Bizarre page? Ok, it may not be as detailed but I don’t seeanyone jumping down his throat.
I’m hoping we can come to some kind of arrangement so I can continue to usethem, such as providing a link to Theofficialcharts.com website each time Ipost the info here, but time will tell…

’24’ on BBC3 – the ultimate insult to viewers…
I won’t include any spoilers for anyone following this new series on BBC2,but it has to be mentioned of BBC3’s total insult to the viewers’ intelligenceas the finale of last night’s third episode came to a head.
Anyone who saw it will know what happened, but as all hell broke loose, an’onscreen next’, “NEXT: PURE 24”, absolutely filled the screen in a blue hazetotally ruining the concentration of anyone who was watching, before disappearingand being replaced with a more usual bottom-right ‘onscreen next’ (also a majorannoyance at the height of drama).
Words fail me just however Stuart Murphy was put in charge of thischannel, given the amount of contempt he gives his viewers. I wish they’dmake him resign over something like that.

BBC Three is a turn-off for the digital generation…
(Source unknown)
“BBC THREE, the £97 million new television channel created for anallegedly under-served “youth” audience, attracted an average of147,000 digital viewers on its launch night.
The heavily-promoted channel, aimed at 25 to 34-year-olds who areturned off by traditional television, proved less popular than UKGold, with its line-up of Porridge and Are You Being Served? repeats.
There are almost 9 million people in Britain aged 25 to 34. BBC Threeattracted fewer viewers than commercial digital channels which alreadytarget the “youth” audience — ITV2, E4 and Sky One all commanded agreater share of multi-channel homes after Three’s 7pm launch onSunday. The repeats channel UK Gold claimed a larger audience between8pm and 10pm.
BBC Three was watched by an average of 147,000 digital satellite, cable and Freeview viewers between 7pm and 12.15am. The audiencepeaked when 270,000 watched Steve Coogan revive his Paul and PaulineCalf characters at 9pm, after the BBC Two “simulcast” ended. Viewersturned off as the evening progressed. The new drama Burn It was seenby 166,000 viewers while 19,000 watched the sketch show 3 Non-Blondes,which began at 11.45pm.
The audience began to flee BBC Two when it started to showcase the newchannel. Almost 3 million had watched the preceding Star Trek film. The audience halved as Johnny Vaughan introduced Re:Covered, in whichrock bands perform cover versions.
The BBC said that the channel had a “good base” from which to grow.Stuart Murphy, the channel’s controller, said: “BBC Three is in it forthe long game, nurturing new ideas.”

Watching TV is bad for your set…!
As reported in Friday’s Manchester Metro News and featured on bothLogo Free TVand625: Andrew Wiseman’s TV Room” align=right alt=”news page pic”>,damaged was caused to a TV all thanks to the onscreen graffiti on BBC’sCBeebies channel.
This report is printed in full without permission, but is intended to get thepoint across that such onscreen logos can be dangerous for your viewing.
- By Helen Tither
“LITTLE Amelia Cronin is a big fan of children’s TV channel CBeebies.
Unfortunately the same can’t be said for her parents – they are being hauntedby a ghost image of the channel’s logo. No matter what they watch, from hardnews programmes to films and soaps, the CBeebies logo appears at the top ofthe screen.
Now astounded dad John has been told the family, from Gorton, have mis-usedthe £2,000 TV – by watching it. He called out the repair men just months afterbuying the wide-screen Samsung TV, DVD, and video package from Currys inAncoats, only to be told the TV was suffering from “screen burn.”
This is caused when static TV channel logos, particularly found on digitalchannels, are turned on for hours at a time, leaving a permanent on-screenshadow whatever channel is playing.
Yet this problem is not covered by the warranty taken out by the family and hewas told there was nothing the company could do. A two-hour meeting with thestore’s management, a trip to Trading Standards and the Citizens AdviceBureau and some angry phone calls later, he now fears he could be haunted bythe channel for ever.
“We bought this TV because we wanted the latest technology,” says John, wholives with girlfriend Jane Cannon and daughters Amelia, three, and Olivia, 10.“But we only bought it in August and two or three months later we were gettinga constant CBeebies logo at the top of the screen. We have that particularchannel on for the kids when they get in from school but not for long becauseit goes off at 7pm. We called Currys and asked for a new TV because we spent alot of money but they said there was nothing they could do because it screenburn.
At first I didn’t know what that was – I do now. We were told that bywatching it we had mis-used it – so why did we spend all that money on a TVfor if we can’t watch it? We thought we would be buying the latest technologyhere, having paid £2,000 which we are still paying off. We even bought thewarranty. However, we have been to see the manager for two hours, phoned theCurrys helpline, and been to the CAB and Trading Standards and there’s nothinganyone can do.
What it boils down to is we have apparently mis-used the TV by watching it.”
John says he took out a warranty on the TV package until 2007. But a spokespersonfor Currys says, because the problem is caused by screen-burn, neither thecompany nor the manufacturers can be held responsible.
However, following inquiries by Metro News the company has agreed to offerJohn a replacement set. “Screen burn is not a fault with the TV and it’s nota fault of the manufacturers so it’s something the broadcasters need to sortout,” she says. “It leaves some customers with a bit of a problem becauseit can happen to any TV if you left it on one image for hours and hours andthe warranty doesn’t cover it. In this case we are going to help Mr Cronin outreplace his TV. We would not do it normally but it is a gesture of good will.”

February 9th :Happiness puts things into perspective…
The DVD of series 1 is out and the second series continues with guestappearances from Gabrielle Richens and Maria McErlane.
The series continues on BBC2, Tuesday at 10pm.
Happiness Series 2is online now.
And so tonight from 7pm, BBC Three will take the place of BBC Choice,
The BBC have waffled on about how fresh and original the content will be,but we’ve got a pile of programmes that just feed off those that have gonebefore. Johnny Vaughan desperately wants to be David Letterman, Dom Joly‘sshow is a rip-off of Graham Norton, there’s tired “let’s-bring-them-back-because-we’re-out-of-ideas”Paul Calf and The Fast Show‘s Swiss Toni, yet another20something relationship drama in Burn It and 3 Non Blondes isanother Candid Camera.
As for the big percentage of “must-be-on-BBC3-first” content, well insteadof just showing repeats of BBC1/2 programmes, they’ll show them on BBC3 firstand repeat them on BBC1/2 some time later, thus negating their whole argumentwhile apparently fulfilling their remit.
Yes, it plans to be a depressing start and it can only go downhill from there. However, there seems to be one possible light on the horizon with LittleBritain, featuring the-only-one-left-on-Shooting-Stars-who’s-still-funny-Matt Lucas and yes-his-surname’s-really-spelt-that-way David Walliams.
Tonight’s launch line-up, before it starts repeating itself is:
