Normal is the name of a fictional small town in Minnesota, although this movie was filmed in Winnipeg, Canada. Well, you don’t want to go to Minnesota, given what ICE agents do to the residents, there!
Ulysses Richardson (Bob Odenkirk) has a temporary 8-week placement there, as the local Sheriff, given that the previous one died, not long after buying a load of C4 plastic explosives… for a town which has almost no crime. Hmm…
Meanwhile, The Fonz (yes, Henry Winkler – Black Adam) is the mayor in a town which has had a huge $16.8m refurbishment, and the newcomer’s wondering where they got the money from. Still, there IS time for crime, as a bank heist takes place, since the vault contains something rather unexpected, but I’ll leave that for you to discover, but it all leads to one of those stories where the whole town is against Ulysses, and if he can make it out alive, that’ll be a hard task.
Normal is not quite as good as the Nobody films, but it’s still neat enough to fill the gap until the third movie in that series comes along, even though that threequel is currently stuck in development-limbo.
However, although this film takes about 35 minutes to get going, while there’s no mid nor post scene, it does set up a potential sequel. And Jess McLeod is nicely nerdy at being about the only person on our hero’s side!
Normal is in cinemas now, but isn’t yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD. However, once announced, it will appear on the New DVD Blu-ray 3D and 4K releases UK list.
