Platform 7 – The DVDfever Review – ITV drama – Jasmine Jobson

Platform 7 Platform 7 is a new drama on ITV… well, technically it was released on ITVX last December, but I’m just getting to it now, as it arrives on the flagship channel during the summer break.

Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy) plays Lisa Evans, who is dead, but that’s the least of her problems. Even worse is that she can’t remember a great deal about it. She knows she committed suicide, because all she can do is walking around the train station platform in the afterlife. No-one can see her, except for Edward Warren’s (Phil DavisTruelove) dog, just as the man, himself, is about to throw himself in front of a train, and succeeds.

As such, he can now see her, too, but is equally frustrated that you can check out any time you like, but you just can never leave.

So far, in the first of four episodes, there was an interesting moment where another woman is looking nervous, while at the station. Lisa detects her pain after touching a teardrop, reminding me of 2007’s one-off drama Empathy, when Stephen Moyer could sense someone’s past just by coming into contact with them. I still remember that as being a great pilot that never took off, partly because Moyer soon went on to work on True Blood, so he did alright in the end.

However, Lisa’s also beginning to feel her own past, but doesn’t know why she took her own life. Presumably, that will take up to four episodes to figure out.

Beyond that, though, there’s the usual tropes of a train station worker unfairly blaming himself because he couldn’t get to Edward in time before he did the deed. However, we do get an amusing moment since as for the police, one cop is told to “collect the large parts first” of the body. Ewww…

But when we see Lisa spotting her parents, and boyfriend, Matthew (Toby RegboFantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), marking a year since she passed away, she somehow manages to break free of the restrictions of being in the station. However, watching her only achieving the task of visiting her loved ones, it all feels a bit surface-level so far – especially how it dripfeeds additional information, but I’ll check out the second episode.
