Seventh Son stars Jeff Bridges as John Gregory, the seventh son of a seventh son and also the local spook who has protected he country from witches, boggarts, ghouls and all manner of things that go bump in the night.
However John is not young anymore, and has been seeking an apprentice to carry on his trade. Most have failed to survive. The last hope is a young farmer’s son named Thomas Ward (Ben Barnes). Will he survive the training to become the spook that so many others couldn’t? Should he trust the girl with pointy shoes? How can Thomas stand a chance against Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), the most dangerous witch in the county?
Also starring Kit Harington, Djimon Hounsou and Olivia Williams, this trailer really didn’t work for me. Bridges just sounds like he’s channelling the mumbling, moronic, murdering loser he played in the 1993 remake of The Vanishing, which was dreadful compared to the superb original (and from the same director!)
Seventh Son is out on February 6th 2015 in the UK and I’ll be giving it a wide berth. Jan and Feb are usually the months when the crap films get dumped on the big screen, so that explains a lot.
