At the end of series 2, Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) was assumed to be dead, but then how would they make a third series? With a bit of difficulty…
So, ahead of the New Year’s Day premiere of series 3, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss have released a prequel of sorts, entitled ‘Many Happy Returns’.
The episode’s synopsis reveals: “Sherlock Holmes has been gone for two years. But someone isn’t quite convinced that he’s dead…”
Written by Mark Gatiss and and Steven Moffat, it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock, plus Martin Freeman as Watson, Rupert Graves as DI Lestrade and Jonathan Aris as Anderson.
