Superdad centres around Keon (Martin McCann), who’s largely absent from his son, Wesley’s (Joseph Obasohan) life, but has turned up out of the blue on the lad’s birthday, just expecting to take over everything, and his mother, Frankie (Lorraine Burroughs) telling him no, sends the lad into a tailspin. This part his reminds me of when my parents split up and you just can’t fathom anything out when you’re young.
However, his Dad sneaks him off for a roadtrip, even though he should really be in school, while Dad claims to have been working in America, when he actually be somewhere else right now – the billing does state where, but I won’t reveal that here because it feels like something which shouldn’t be spoiled.
Before long, his Dad starts slipping up with lies, and you can see the crushing disappointment that’s beginning to set in, in Wesley’s eyes, followed by how things progress from there after the mask slips and the truth is revealed, making for a very powerful short film.
Superdad is broadcast tonight on Channel 4 at 11pm. The series is not yet available to pre-order on Blu-ray or DVD.
After broadcast, the series will be on All 4.
There’s no Series 3 trailer online, so I’ve given the Series 2 trailer below.
