The Road Trip sees Addie (Emma Appleton – Everything I Know About Love) going to a friend’s wedding in Spain, alongside bestie Deb (Isabella Laughland – Anne Boleyn), yet, following an oddly-directed car crash in which her ex, Dylan (Laurie Davidson), is in the passenger seat, and bring driven by friend Marcus (David Jonsson – Alien Romulus), leaving the car totalled, tensions flare, and the unlikely situation of the pair having to join them. Well, they don’t have to, but it’s how the ‘comedy/drama’ will play out, for the next 1000 miles.
Cue a flashback scene, showing how the pair got together as Addie was the housekeeper for a villa during the summer, and the most we get are some slight jokes for this unlikely situation, but nothing that goes beyond a slight chuckle.
Neither of two leads in The Road Trip can particularly act, and the chemistry between them is less than zero, so I justcan’t imagine how they ever got past the screen test, and I don’t know who thought it was necessary to resurrect a well-worn example of “Hey, let’s get some exes back together!”
And, why doesn’t Addie’s campervan have seat belts in the back? They’re required by law!
The Spanish setting is nice, though, but for me, this road trip is stuck on the hard shoulder, waiting to be rescued by the RAC.
